Studio Challenges: My Playground

Hello and Welcome!

Today's challenge at StudioChallenges is "Inspired by a Song". The key to this challenge = don't overthink it!!! I say this cause I almost did.

Song by Madonna - 'This used to be my playground"

When I was young child, I lived in Germany for several years because my father was in the military. The one thing that is clear to me in my memories is the variety of playgrounds. After we moved back to the U.S. I remember thinking about the sad state of our playgrounds here compared to what I had access to in Europe.

We were in the car constantly during our trip to Germany, sight-seeing then going to the next place. We finally made a three day stop in Berlin. Everyone was tired and burnt out from the road, especially my nine-year old son. I insisted we find somewhere to play. No tourist stuff. Just play. We surfed the internet and found a blog by a local who had written about all the various playgrounds around Berlin. We picked one that looked like fun for our kid.

My three "men" climbed, jumped, and rolled for nearly two hours. P.S. We were with our German exchange student during most of this trip. I took pictures. It was not a tourist spot, but nevertheless one of our favorite places!!

Creative Scrappers: Wonder

Hello and welcome!! It's the beginning of the month, a new year, and time for a new sketch challenge provided by Creative Scrappers!! I must admit, I am geometrically challenged. I recruited my sister's help to figure out how to cut out the triangles. (Hint: you just need your paper trimmer)

It's been a long time since I made a page in which I "filled it up". But once I got past the head-scratching triangles, it came together rather quickly!!! Thanks Sis!

I reached for so many odds & ends goodies I couldn't begin to tell you
what's all on here! It's a smorg-a-board of happiness!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Paper: American Crafts - Continued; Heidi Swapp - September Skies

The embellishments are from "everywhere". I try to coordinate my
embellishments and don't really keep track of where they come from.

I even managed to sneak in some random stitching!!
It's rather subtle.

Eat Drink and Be Merry

Hello! Today I would like to share with you my most recent Christmas layout.

Backstory: My son is ten this past Christmas and is no longer interested in sitting on Santa's lap. So instead, I took my beloved dog, Sky!!!! My little dog is too distrustful so she got to stay home and cry about it. *LOL*

Sky is eight years old and it's her first Santa picture. She did fabulous!!!! P.S. So did Santa.

The bright photo with a whirlwind of colors definitely needed bright paper to match. Nothing will do except Bella Blvd.

I'm entering this into the Scrap Our Stash's Tic Tac Toe challenge. I used misting spray, 5+ patterned papers and twine.

Thanks for stopping by today!!!

The bright, glittery title came from HL. Actually, my sister bought it and
I just had to use it on the layout. I also purposely used references to "eating" here as
well. What dog doesn't like "cookies" lying around, right?!

I've been playing around with misting spray. Of course I added
a bit of hand-stitching!!

Supplies:
--Bella Blvd. - Holly Jolly Christmas
--AC White Cardstock
Glimmer Mist - Denim
Red Stitching
Red/White Twine (on button)
Christmas title and button - from HL

Note: My pets really do not have access to "people" cookies. I just reference cookies for humor.

Vacation: A Trip to Remember

Hello all!!!

I did warn my readers that I would be posting a lot about my family's trip to Germany! This page is about our stop to Dresden, East Germany. I will be making another page just showing the beauty of the place, but also the residual feel of Communism that was left behind in East Germany.

So much of Germany was destroyed in WWII. Nearly every major city and building was demolished due to bombing. What's different about Europe in general is that the people want to preserve their history, not build something shiny and modern.

Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg, etc. is rebuilding what was destroyed. Because it's being rebuilt with copper, it already looks "old" since copper changes color so quickly, due to the weather. That's not really shown in these photos but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I was hugely inspired by the new sketch over at Stuck?!Sketches. So I thought I'd play along!

Thanks for stopping by today!!

Studio Challenges: Here We Go!

Challenge - Review of the Year - instead of looking forward to the new year ahead, I want you to look back at the year you have just had! It could be a review of the whole year, something special that happened or your favourite thing about the year, or maybe it's one you would rather forget! it's up to you! Head back up to The Studio Challenges for more fabulous inspiration.

What a challenge, right!?? I love how I could do almost anything I wanted, as long as I talked about something from 2016.

For me, 2016 was about our big trip to Germany. I have many layouts planned with the awesome paper from Pretty Little Studio as well as the new Reflection kit from Altenew (that will come later). This is my first one about that wonderful trip.

This scene is us about 1 mile high up in the Bavarian Alps. What a grand time this was!!!! We loved the view and my son loved all the climbing. I stuck mainly to taking photos. I must say that all of us enjoyed this day together so much!! More awesome photos to come throughout the next few weeks.

I was greatly inspired by this layout from Pinterest.

Thanks for stopping by today!!

I hand-stitched the entire "pie" circle.
